Creative Northland has an ongoing commitment to making sure that the arts sector in Northland is dynamic, thriving, influential and productive.

Kings Theatre Hōtoke

Kings Theatre Creative in Kawakawa have released their full Hōtoke – Winter Programme following the first event in the programme – a creative writing workshop with Vivian Thomas and
the Northland Society of Authors at the end of June. “As we celebrate Matariki and the colder months we pack down our final exhibition for the season and redirect our energy. Over winter we turn our focus from our manuhiri / visitors to ourselves, our whanau and our communities,” says gallery director, Lau’rell Pratt. “We are all volunteers, and winter allows us a little more time to share our talents, take time to talk, make and create, so our programme is built around that; sharing skills, ideas, and motivation.

This years programme includes some of our popular workshops, including our Tamariki Toi School Holiday programme, and our Art Incubator – Whakatupu Ake for professional artists, Creative
writing and Poetry, along with a new Community-Create Series, aimed at anyone who wants to give art a go. “It’s a trial for us, so we hope the community from across the district gets into support the idea of ‘growing our collective-creative-capacity, social wellbeing and ’ Our member artists offer their time to share skills in a fun and relaxed workshop setting – this includes an introduction to print making workshop, jewellery/weaving and embellishment workshop and an introduction to paint workshop.

Details of the programme follow and are online via the Theatre Facebook page and Eventfinder.  For more Information contact Lau’rell Pratt, Gallery Director – kingstheatrecreative@gmail.com / 021 024 57571.
