Community Funding

Open for applications!

Whangarei District Council supports community groups for a variety of events, amenities and services through their community funding scheme.

They want to hear from not-for-profit community organisations who are working to benefit our communities of place, of people and of interest.

If you need support with a project or activity that is helping to create a vibrant, attractive and thriving District, the following Funds may assist you.

Creative Communities Scheme (Round 2, 2018-19) – This Scheme supports local community groups in creating opportunities for access and participation in arts activities in all its forms. Whangarei District Council administer this Scheme on behalf of Creative New Zealand. For grants up to $10,000. Closes 25 February 2019, with decisions advised end of March.

Community Fund (Round 2, 2018-19) – This Fund is available for a wide variety of projects and events including festivals, workshops, working bees, facility improvements, and minor capital purchases. For grants up to $10,000. Closes 4 March 2019 with decisions advised mid-April.

Partnership Fund – This Fund is available to support the development of community facilities by community groups on a shared contribution basis.  Applicants should be well advanced in their project planning, have a sound business case, and the ability to contribute financially. For grants up to $150,000. Apply anytime.

Funding seminar

There will be a short seminar on Council’s funding on Wednesday 23 January, 12pm at the May Bain Room, Whangarei Central Library, Rust Ave. All welcome. Alternatively, you can make an appointment to see the Funding Officer to discuss your project.
