HIKURANGI ART STATION OPENS

The Hikurangi Art Station opened on on Friday 8 December at 31 King Street, Hikurangi. Around 120 friends, family, colleagues, artists and supporters turned up for the opening.  The Hikurangi Art Station offers large and flexible exhibition and teaching spaces. There will be a changing program of exhibitions as well as changing displays of the work of their participating artists. Spaces will also be available for hire or for events and some artists will work on site, allowing visitors to see various processes of art creation in progress.

The organisers’ aim is to make Hikurangi Art Station a place of healthy creativity, inspiration, energy and artistic excellence. The gallery is open Tuesdays to Sundays, 10:00am – 4:00pm and closed Mondays although classes will be offered in the evenings.

Selected artworks from their stable of artists will be on sale including cards from $7 – $15 and other works – drawings, paintings, prints, sculptures, photographs, at a range of price points. Exhibitions and stock will change probably every three weeks.
They will be offering after school and holiday art classes for children and classes for adults at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels (painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, weaving, hat making) – others to be added in accordance with needs and interests.  Adult classes will be kept to a maximum of six people in order to allow for intensive instruction and support. Intensive one-on-one master classes will also be offered.
Gallery space can be hired and we will also be able to host cocktail events, artist talks, product launches and whatever else that spreads the word. There will be fun events like “Make a Hat for the Races”. This is all part of making Hikurangi a new creative hub.
Brian Murphy will be offering YogAlign classes. Brian is one of few accredited YogAlign trainers in New Zealand, for those wanting to develop core strength, good posture and good joint articulation, without dangerous contortions.
