Creative Northland – Connecting Northland’s Art Sector

NYSAF Digital Workshop Series

Creative Northland is excited to offer FREE youth workshops as a part of the NYSAF Digital Workshop Series, thanks to funding from the Northland Youth Arts and Capability Fund (funded by Creative New Zealand & the Ministry of Youth Development).

Creative Northland will deliver a series of ‘Interart’ facilitated workshops to the Far North and Kaipara districts, engaging youth in the process of capturing their stories in achieving their wellbeing, following on from the NYSAF2019.

There will be 6 workshops from November 2019 to January 2020 whereby they will gain knowledge particularly in visual communications, design, technology and allowing their minds to be free and creative.
Youth participants will gain real, relevant and practical skills such as collaborating, sharing ideas and problem-solving. The youth will be exposed to new networks, technology, and ideas with many realizing a passion for technology. Skilled practitioners leading the workshops will be the role models for a few youths, in particular, those who will be interested in pursuing design at a University.

Taku Korero | My Story

Taipa: 2-3 November 2019, 9am-3pm
10 places available

Kaitaia: 16-17 November 2019, 9am-3pm
20 places available

Hokianga: 7-8 December 2019, 9am-3pm
18 places available

The first workshops to roll out are ‘Taku Kōrero’, facilitated by Echo Limited.

Youth will work in groups to create a templated story which is multi-genre and multilingual. It is an exercise in collaborative learning. Working in groups supports social and emotional intelligence by engaging in conversation, making decisions, negotiating, and appreciation of the diversity of cultures, strengths of individuals and how to work together to achieve a successful outcome. The stories are produced into an app and made available on Apple and Google
Play for free download onto tablets and mobiles.
