Passchendaele Commemoration

This Thursday 12th of October marks the centenary of Passchendaele and Creative Northland will be projecting a series of images on to the Gilmore Taylor Building on Rathbone Street in Whangarei on Wednesday evening and then on to the RSA side of the Whangarei Central Library on Thursday evening to commemorate the occasion.

The Kaeo RSA will also be projecting images of four local soldiers who lost their lives in the battle and other images onto the wall of the Wesleydale Memorial Church in Leigh Street, in the centre of Kaeo, on Thursday and Friday evening from sunset onwards.

Creative Northland General Manager, Hinurewa te Hau says they will also be inflating a giant 10 metre diameter peace symbol designed by Suza Schiele and created by Warwick Bell from Palmer Canvas to be exhibited on the bowling green of the RSA on Friday 13th October at 12.30pm.

“We invite you to come ‘Pump for Peace’ as we remember those who have fought for a better world, at a time when the world is in turmoil, Peace becomes even more vital among human kind.”

This is a joint initiative with the Whangarei RSA and Kaeo RSA and Creative Northland and they welcome everyone in both communities along to all the commemorations.
