WSS 2016
The Whangarei Sculpture Symposium is a biennial event with artists working onsite to create sculptures from wood and stone. This year the theme was Migration and the event was held at beautiful Hihiaua Peninsula, Town Basin. The public was invited to come along and observe the 20 artists at work. Over the weekend of March 5th and 6th, there was entertainment, food vendors and competitions and giveaways from The Hits, ZM and Newstalk ZB radio stations.
At the end of the symposium, one piece was be selected by the judges which Whangarei District Council purchased and donated back to the community by erecting at the sculpture park along the loop at the town basin. All remaining sculptures were auctioned on site on the 9th March at the end of the Symposium.
